Geminids Meteor Shower
People in Sri Lanka will be able to see Geminids Meteor shower at its peak on 14th December 2023. Geminids is annually active in December and considered to be one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year.
Geminids originate from asteroid 3200 Phaethon. When the Earth passes through debris of the asteroid they collide with our atmosphere and create Geminids meteors.
Meteors appear to be emerged from constellation Gemini and can be seen by looking at the Gemini constellation in the North Eastern sky after 9.00 p.m. on 14th December 2023.

2023 දෙසැම්බර් 14 දින ජෙමිනිඩ්ස් උල්කාපාත වර්ෂාවේ උච්චතමය දැක බලා ගැනීමට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසීන්ට හැකියාව පවතී. වාර්ෂිකව දෙසැම්බර් මාසයේ ක්‍රියාකාරී වන ජෙමිනිඩ්ස්, වසරේ දර්ශනීයම උල්කාපාත වර්ෂා වලින් එකක් ලෙස සැලකේ.
පෘථිවිය 3200 Phaethon ග්‍රහකයේ සුන්බුන් හරහා ගමන් කරන විට එම කොටස් අපගේ වායුගෝලය සමඟ ගැටීම හේතුවෙන් ජෙමිනිඩ්ස් උල්කාපාත ඇතිවේ.
උල්කාපාත මිථුන තාරකා රාශියේ සිට ගමන් ගන්නා සේ දිස්වන අතර 2023 දෙසැම්බර් 14 දින රාත්‍රී 9.00 න් පසු උතුරු නැගෙනහිර අහසේ මිථුන තාරකා රාශිය දෙස බැලීමෙන් නිරීක්‍ෂණය කිරීමට හැකියාව ඇත.
