Socio-economic impact of major bridges construction projects of the National Road Netwrok in Sri Lanka

Our client, a leading management consulting company based in Japan, has undertaken to carry out an ex-post evaluation of the JICA funded project on “Major bridges construction projects of the National Road Network in Sri Lanka”. ACCIMT was assigned to carry out the satellite data based analysis of the Socio-economic impact of the project as one of the measures for evaluating.
This assignment involved the use of night-time light data derived from satellite imagery for analyzing the changes on speed of increase of the light intensity before and after construction of the bridges along the road network. It constituted processing of satellite images from 2014 to 2021, covering the Northern and Southern provinces of Sri Lanka, using GIS and Remote Sensing techniques and performing a descriptive statistical analysis.

This study emphasized that GIS and Remote Sensing technologies can provide better information for aiding decision support and monitoring.
