The Programme for Acquisition and Development of National Capacity in Space Technology — Sri Lanka’s Quest to Build Satellites.
Sri Lanka’s quest to build national capacity in space technology began in mid-2014 with a concept paper submitted to the Government by the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) for implementing a “Programme for Acquisition and Development of National Capacity in Space Technology.”
The programme envisioned leveraging the emerging global boom in nano-satellite technologies as the key driver of the initiative. Accordingly, it adopted as its strategic direction the design, development, testing, launch, and in-orbit operation of nano-satellites, through technology collaborations with space-faring nations.
