Partial Solar Eclipse
A partial solar eclipse was visible
to Sri Lanka just after the sun rise on 22nd July 2009. The
Arthur C Clarke Institute organized an observation session
for general public at its premises.
The partial eclipse began at 6:05
a.m. and reached its maximum at 6:20 a.m. and ended up at
7:12 a.m.
Clouds in the eastern sky obstructed
us from viewing the beginning of the eclipse.
A 80mm refractive telescope(22x) with “Astro Badder” filter
was used to capture images on the Nikon Coolpix S10 digital
camera.
A panoramic view of the observatory
site at the time of mid eclipse was recorded on Cannon EOS1
MarkIII digital camera.
The timing of
the end of the eclipse was recorded as 7:11:53 which agrees
very well with the timings given in the NASA Eclipse website
for Colombo, Sri Lanka.
These
images were taken at
the
Arthur C Clarke observatory.
