Workshop on Astronomical Data Reduction was held on January 28,29th 2016

The largest telescope in Sri Lanka, the 45 cm Cassegrain telescope at ACCIMT, is celebrating its twenty years of service in the year 2016. During the past twenty years, the telescope has been utilized for astronomical research and for the numerous outreach activities.

The space applications division organized a workshop to celebrate the twenty years of service, which provided opportunity to experience astronomical data analysis for undergraduates.

Dr. Nalin Samarasinha, Senior Scientist, Planetary Science Institute, USA, Prof. Chandana Jayaratne, Department of Physics, University of Colombo and Dr. Kavan Rathnathunga contributed as resource persons.

In this workshop, basic astronomical data analysis software called IRAF is used for data reduction. 18 students from all the government universities were participated to the workshop.
